Princeton economist to deliver Provost鈥檚 Distinguished Women鈥檚 Lecture on March 20

Cecilia Elena Rouse, professor of economics and public affairs at Princeton University, will deliver the Provosts Distinguished Womens Lecture, titledMaking 91视频s Accountable: Effects on Students and 91视频s,at 5 p.m. March 20 (Tuesday) in Room 126 of DeBartolo Hall at the University of Notre Dame. The presentation is free and open to the public.

With federal No Child Left Behind legislation up for renewal this year, the accountability initiatives the law demands are currently being evaluated. Rouses research focuses on labor economics with a particular emphasis on the economics of education. She plans to discuss not only the effect of accountability testing on schools, but also the effect of education on society as a whole.

Rouse serves as director of the Industrial Relations and Education Research Sections at Princeton and earned her doctoral degree atHarvardUniversity. Her current research includes studies ofFloridas school accountability system and an evaluation of computer use in education.

The Provost鈥檚 Distinguished Women鈥檚 Lecture Series encourages innovative forms of interaction between highly regarded women visitors and Notre Dame faculty, students and administration. Rouses visit is sponsored by the Department of Economics and Policy 91视频 and the Gender 91视频 Program.
