Renowned architect Leon Krier to speak Nov. 3

Leon Krier, world-renowned practitioner, theorist and teacher, and 2003 recipient of the University of Notre Dame 91视频 of Architecture鈥檚 Richard H. Driehaus Prize for Classical Architecture, will present a lecture on his life鈥檚 work at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 3 (Monday) in Notre Dame鈥檚 Washington Hall. The event is free and open to the public.p. Known as the 鈥渋ntellectual godfather鈥 of the New Urbanism movement in the United States, Krier鈥檚 best-known projects include Poundbury, a new town commissioned by the Prince of Wales modeled on a traditional English village, and Alessandria, a new town in Italy designed in a classical style.p. Krier has taught architecture and town planning at the Royal College of Arts, London; Princeton and Yale Universities; and the University of Virginia. A founding trustee of the New 91视频 for Traditional Architecture and Urbanism in Charleston, S.C., his honors include the Jefferson Memorial Gold Medal, the Berlin Prize for Architecture, the Chicago American Institute of Architects Award, the European Culture Prize and the inaugural Driehaus Prize, which he was awarded earlier this year at a ceremony held at the Art Institute of Chicago. The $100,000 annual award is endowed by Richard H. Driehaus, the founder and chairman of Driehaus Capital Management in Chicago, to honor a major contributor in the field of traditional and classical architecture or historic preservation.
