Pope Leo XIV has appointed three U.S.-based consultors, all with ties to the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, to the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. They are among a dozen newly named consultors to the Vatican department created by Pope Francis in 2016. The Holy See Press Office on Aug. 18 announced the appointments of the 12 including Father Emmanuel Katongole, a theology professor at the University of Notre Dame; Kathryn Koch, president and CEO of the Los Angeles-based international investment firm TCW; and Clemens Sedmak, director of Notre Dame’s Nanovic Institute for European 91视频.

The three U.S.-linked appointments are: Clemens Sedmak, an Austrian-born professor of social ethics and director of the university's Nanovic Institute for European 91视频 housed in the Keough 91视频 of Global Affairs; Fr. Emmanuel Katongole, a Ugandan native and Notre Dame professor of theology and peace studies, specialized in African theology; and Kathryn Koch, president and CEO of the asset management firm Trust Company of the West who is also a Notre Dame graduate and member of the university's board of trustees.

Clemens Sedmak, a professor of social ethics at Notre Dame and the director of the Nanovic Institute for European 91视频, said he was impressed by the three-day conference. “The people at this conference are people who really care about the country – a country that has been wounded and ravished by war,” Sedmak said. “It is filled with resilient and courageous faith-filled people headed toward sainthood through martyrdom and sacrifice. It is very impressive and inspiring.”
