The declining level of confidence should be concerning for any politicians not focusing on affordability, Jason Reed, professor at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, told Newsweek. “Historically, the economy has been the single biggest domestic factor influencing presidential approval,” he said. “For President Trump, I would argue that affordability concerns will continue to shape the direction of his approval rating, while other single-issue voters, such as those on immigration, influence the magnitude of the rating.”
